Open World Learning Lab

Not a metaverse school. A real-world learning model for an age of intelligent tools.

Open-world education model

Open World Learning Lab is an independent, open-source education design project exploring how real places, human mentorship, AI tools, live exploration, and rigorous learning design can turn the world into a more alive learning environment.

Independent concept project. Meta Academy Tahoe is a symbolic pilot concept—not an official Meta, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, or Tahoe school partnership. This is not “a metaverse school.” It is a real-world learning model that uses emerging tools to deepen attention to reality.

What it is

Open World Learning Lab is an independent, open-source education design project exploring how real places, human mentorship, AI tools, live exploration, and rigorous learning design can turn the world into a more alive learning environment.

The project began from a personal insight growing up in Tahoe: many students may not hate knowledge itself—they may hate knowledge removed from reality. A student who does not care about math in a classroom may deeply care about landing a ski, snowboard, or wakeboard trick. If that learner could review motion, study angle, rotation, force, torque, timing, body mechanics, and feedback, math becomes connected to something real.

The site frames open-world education as structured freedom:

Experience → curiosity → guided inquiry → knowledge → practice → artifact → reflection

The first symbolic pilot concept is Meta Academy Tahoe: a place-based, globally networked learning environment where Tahoe becomes an open-world classroom. The lake becomes ecology, climate, physics, public policy, and stewardship. A ski jump or wakeboard trick becomes biomechanics and physics. A trail becomes geology, navigation, land use, and attention. A campfire becomes chemistry, anthropology, story, ritual, and civic conversation.

The project is intended to become an open-source design library with manifestos, concept briefs, mission templates, field guides, ethical guardrails, and pilot blueprints. I created the concept, brand positioning, landing page, manifesto, and sample learning model.
